  • The home-to-school connection is a critical component of a successful school experience for students and families. The Naas School Improvement Plan focuses on practices for improving a students’ school experience in both the academic and social areas. We strive to make greater gains with our School Improvement Plan by including families in the educational process. Toward this goal, we have created our Parent Involvement Policy.

A Site Council composed of elected staff members, parents/community members as well as the school administrator will meet once a month to plan, review and implement the school-wide goals as written in the Comprehensive School Plan. The Site Council will make yearly recommendations for revisions as needed.

Each year a Title I Information Night will be held. Title IA is a federal grant received by some schools based on the percentage of students receiving free or reduced fee school meals. Naas Elementary qualifies as a Title 1a school. An overview of the Title 1a Program will be presented at this Information Night, including specific areas that are supported by these funds. This night also includes opportunities for families to become informed about grade level standards and compare their child’s current level of performance to that standard. Participants are encouraged to provide feedback which is used to improve future events. Translation will be available as well.

A designated area in the entry of the school will provide parents with school/district related information as well as educational opportunities available for families. The monthly Naas Newsletter will include information about school events and for supporting children as learners. Parent information will be available in both English and Spanish, as well as electronic and hard copy format.

Parents will be kept informed of their child’s progress through: parent/teacher conferences, report cards, classroom newsletters, teacher contact by email, note or phone, and Student Study Team meetings. ParentVue, an online resource for parents to view their child’s work completion and assignment grades, is also available to families to monitor their child’s progress.

A Parent/Student/Teacher Compact will be shared with students and parents each fall.

A variety of parent involvement opportunities will be made available on an on-going basis. These may include:

    • Family/Teacher Conferences
    • Reading Night/Title 1 Info Night
    • Site Council

  • Comprehensive Needs Assessment:

Over the course of the 2019-20, 2020-21, 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years, Naas Elementary School spent multiple hours collaborating with parents, community members, staff, and our student council. Stakeholders were invited to monthly meetings and a comprehensive needs assessment was done.  The comprehensive needs assessment showed that the staff was supportive and that students felt safe at school.  It also identified that the learning environment was very positive and that the community events were very well received.  One need that was identified was for more frequent communication from the teachers regarding student progress.

The ORIS Needs Assessment was completed during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school year by the Naas Site Council. The Site Council is composed of licensed and classified staff members, parent/community members and the school administrator. Academic, behavioral and attendance data was reviewed as well as information related to educationally disadvantaged groups. The ORIS Needs Assessment was completed using this information and three goals were determined based on the results of the needs assessment. Assessment results and a draft of the goals were shared with all staff for further input. The Site Council reviewed the additional input to make adjustments and finalize the assessment results and goals.

Goal 1: Develop and cultivate common instructional practices focused on providing quality language arts instruction.

    • Measures: Ensure that staff, students, and families are familiar with the expectations. Focusing on common instructional practices will help increase the academic achievement for students in the area of language arts.  This will be measured by the Oregon State Assessment.
    • Activities: Feedback given to teachers, staff development during staff meetings, early releases, and in weekly staff communications.  Classroom teachers will share instructional expectations with students and tie the expectations to outcomes students are familiar with in the classroom setting.  Instructional expectations will be shared with parents through classroom newsletters from the teachers.
    • Professional Learning: Staff development during staff meetings, early release time, and weekly staff communications.

Goal 2: Develop and cultivate common instructional practices focused on provided quality mathematics instruction.

Goal 3: Continue to cultivate and develop school wide systems intended to promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success for all students.

    • Measures: Focusing on the health of the school wide systems will be measured by the success of our students on the Oregon State Assessment.
    • Activities: The PBIS team, Site Council, and Response to Intervention team will meet to review data and determine best practices in order to continue to develop school wide systems.  The focus of these teams will be on academic, behavioral, and social and emotional learning for students.  Communication will be sent out to staff regarding changes to the school wide systems.  Also, training will be provided as needed.
    • Professional Learning: Staff development during staff meetings, early release time, and weekly staff communications.

Goal 4: Continue to remove barriers to learning by working to increase consistent attendance of students.

    • Measures: Barriers to school participation/attendance are identified and systems are put into place in order to support students and families and decrease chronic absenteeism.
    • Activities: The PBIS team at Naas will promote attendance through class attendance awards, attendance incentives, and individual attendance awards.  Teachers will maintain positive communication with families.  The school will be in contact with families that have chronic student absences.
    • Professional Learning: Weekly staff communications and staff meetings that focus on positive communication to families.
